Andy Couturier is the author of The Abundance of Less and has numerous other writings, essays, and articles on ecology, sustainable living, as well as problems with nuclear power. He is a widely published author with more than forty publishing credits to his name, including the Pushcart Prize-nominated essay, “Selling Indulgence in Corporate Japan”.
He is currently based in California where he is the founder and creative director of ‘The Opening’, a center for creative writing. In addition to directing The Opening for 18 years, Andy has taught writing in such far-flung environments as a botanical research station in the hills of Sri Lanka, a Silicon Valley corporation, SF MOMA, the Institute of Transpersonal Psychotherapy and the inner city classrooms of San Francisco.
While living in Japan for four years, he met these individuals he documents in his book, from who he learned about how self-sufficiency can positively impact the lives of those who choose such a lifestyle. With the help of his partner, Cynthia, Couturier wrote The Abundance of Less to share this message. The book has come near 25 years after Andy first met these individuals. He says that to reflect the message of the book he did not want to rush into writing the book.
He is also the winner of the prestigious 2018 Nautilus Book Award in the category Green Living & Sustainability.
